Dental Crowns and its Pros and Cons

There are several pros and cons of having a dental crown.

Here are Pros of having Dental Crowns

Beauty

The first pro is that the crowns are going to be made of porcelain, so they are going to be translucent and smooth. This means that they are going to be able to match the color and size of your natural teeth. Therefore, if you have front teeth that need to be restored, this needs to be the choice that you make.

Allergies

The second pro is that you don’t have to worry about having any allergies to the crowns. This is because of the materials that they are going to be made out of. The materials are bio-compatible. This also means that the person is not going to experience any irritation on their gums.

Visits

The third pro is that all of the work for the crowns can be done in one visit. Most of the other types of restorations are going to mean that the person is going to need to come in several times to get the work done. There is also going to be a longer turn around time for the other types of procedures. Once the tooth has been prepared, it is only going to take about 30 minutes for the crown to be put into place. This is when they are also going to cement the tooth into place.

Here are Cons of having Dental Crowns

Fragile

The first con is that the crown is going to be very fragile. In order for them to be stronger, then the dentist would need to remove part of the original tooth. But they are also going to be exposed to cracking and chipping off. Most of the time, people are only going to be concerned about this if they are going to be putting the crown on one of their front teeth. This is because they are not going to be able to chew up their food like they need to.

Fit

The second con is that they are not going to fit properly like you want them to. You want to make sure that you have a professional that is going to be working on your teeth. This is so that they can put the dental crowns where the tooth is going to meet the gum. Therefore, you are going to have a bad appearance and the tooth will not function like it is suppose to. A professional is going to make sure that you are properly able to use your teeth and your appearance is going to be a lot better.

Costs

The third con is that the porcelain crowns are going to be a lot more expensive than some of the other methods that a person might use to fix their teeth. This is because the porcelain is going to be harder to use and is just an expensive material to use. Therefore, if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on the crowns, then you are going to want to use one of the more affordable options.
